Javier Armando Lorente

Since my graduation in 1987 from the School of Law of the University of Buenos Aires, I have been practicing law with particular emphasis on insolvency law and corporate law. I was admitted to the Colegio Público de Abogados de Buenos Aires (Bar Association of Buenos Aires) in 1988.
I have also studied, lectured and written on issues concerning insolvency and corporate law. I hold academic positions in several Law Schools and in a few School of Economics also. I have written several books and more than seventy papers on insolvency and commercial law.
Main Areas of Practice:
Insolvency, Debt restructuring and Dispute Resolution: I have been involved in some of the most important bankruptcy and debt restructuring cases in Argentina. I have represented both debtors and (local / foreign) creditors in these proceedings. Sometimes I have represented the insolvency trustee appointed in those cases.

I have been a member of the commission designated by the Ministry of Justice in 1998 to develop and propose amendments to the Ley 24,522 de Concursos y Quiebras (the “Argentine Insolvency Law”) and Coordinator of the “Committee to Prepare the Preliminary Draft of the Business Group Act”, Department of Technical and Legislative Affairs, National Ministry of Justice Res. Nº 91 (10/08/98).
I have acted as an expert witness (rendering both written and oral testimony) in some foreign insolvency proceedings (Section 304 U.S. Bankruptcy Code proceedings and other insolvency proceedings), such as “Multicanal S.A.”, “Cablevisión S.A.”, “Telecom Argentina S.A.” and “Compañía de Alimentos Fargo S.A. and Panificación S.A.”.
Co-chair of the Main Organising Committee and Speaker in the INSOL International Seminar held in Buenos Aires on April 17th, 2008.
Appointed Speaker of the Panel “The Intersection of the Credit Markets and Insolvency”, October 14th, 2008, as part of the International Bar Association's 2008 Conference, which will take place on 12 - 17 October in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
I am currently member of the San Isidro Bar Association’s Commercial, Economic and Business Law Institute; Member of the Buenos Aires Bar Association’s Commercial Law Institute; Founder Member of the IberoAmerican Insolvency Law Institute; Member of the INSOL Latin American Committee (since April 2008); and Member of the International Bar Association.
